I found it this morning by casually surfing youtube, when I found this REAALLY deep in my recommended, it had a really cool thumbnail, so I decided to check it out.

And… guys… ITS REALLY REALLY GOOD!!! It’s 16 ish minutes long and I loved every second of it!!! It’s got really unique visuals, interesting characters, good funky music, and a really good mystery!!!

And it’s just on act one!? ACT ONE ?!?!?

I’m soooo exited for the next part to come out!! I’m going to link y’all to the video because it’s barely gotten to 500 views!!!! Which is a crime for something of this level of quality!!!

Project Moon seems to actively avoid saying anything at all about gender (which in itself does say something- they seem to write their characters blind of what gender they're going to be and maybe even flip a coin to decide, in the end saying "we're all people and anyone can be in this social position and have these personality traits", but that's not the point here) but it was still awesome of them to make one of the six female characters in the main cast a mother figure anyway- which sounds sarcastic but I promise it isn't, because that character happens to be the violent chainsmoker who speaks in esoteric acronyms and refuses to explain them and only enjoys herself when she gets to engage in her favorite form of art (murdering people). that's the mom. and they practically tell us “she loves her child like a defensive spider mother who will hunt for food for her babies and devour anyone who tries to squash her kids” through giving her some form of Spider Bud EGO three times.

the reason this is better than no mothers at all is because instead of having to explain why [x] character (Rodya mostly) is not at all a mother figure and having to elaborate on Project Moon’s ideals and the way they write their characters you can go “actually you’re wrong the only milf on the bus is Ryōshū” and also because it subverts expectations so much more than if there just wasn’t any moms. with a complete absence you could still have the “ideal” mother in your head imagining that she could exist in the cast, but instead we have this

okay and another thing (maybe the last. let's hope. I don't want to be the old person yells at clouds meme forever!)

can we (and, God willing, Tony Gilroy) stop excusing every strange narrative choice, every lack of payoff and every characterisation inconsistency with "well, they were going to do five seasons but then they only got two"?

Because it's not like they had everything laid out and the scripts all finished and the cast all under contract and then someone called Gilroy the night before shooting started and said "lol btw you have to do it all in one season good luck". This was also Gilroy's decision, and they knew this for some time.

I'm sure Gilroy and company wrote a script for that five-season version of the show they were proud of, and I'm sure it was disappointing to have to cut it down. I write too, I get that feeling. But here's the thing: Your job as a professional writer is to tell the best possible story within the parameters you are given. If you're a novelist and your publishing house will only let your book have 500 pages, and you turn in a book with no ending and say "well, I ran out of space", then you didn't write a good book. If you're a journalist and half of your article is missing because you ignored the space limit and now everyone only has half the information, that is a bad article. If you're a student and you have an idea for a term paper that spans 50+ pages and the page limit is 20, and instead of picking a different topic you cut your first draft down to fit even though you lose half your argument and most of the relevant analysis in the process, you've written a bad paper. And regardless of how great that writer, journalist or student think their text could have turned out to be, the bottom line in the real world is that the public has a book that is bad, and an article that isn't telling the whole story, and that student is getting a bad grade for handing in an incoherent, surface-level paper.

When you realise the parameters of your task have changed, it is your job to adapt to that new framework. And if you look at the story you have and think, well, this thing needs way more seasons to tell than I am given by the studio... then it is your job to put that draft into a cupboard and get to work on a story that can be told in a single season. Even if that story is completely different from the one you were going to tell! Kill your darlings, gentlemen! I'm sure they loved what they had written, but as professionals, it is their job to recognise this story no longer works, and let it go. They didn't do that. They chopped bits off until the foot somehow fit into the glass slipper, because they were too concerned with their own attachment to the work they had already created, and not concerned enough with the question of whether they were giving their audience the best story they could tell in the framework they were actually given.

And that is called doing a bad job.

So I'm sorry, but every time someone counters a critique of the narrative flow or the character consistency or the treatment of every female and/or poc character with "well, they didn't have enough time to tell their story!", all I am hearing is "well, consider that this show was written by people who were being bad at their job!"

“I am a ghoul of Hell,” Rain complains. He pouts as he climbs into Mountain’s bed, and the earth ghoul cracks an eye open. “Princemade. Bane of the deepwaters of the Fifth. I should not be this worked up over some old human project.”

Mountain grumbles, pulling back the covers to accept Rain into his arms. “I take it movie night did not go well, tadpole?”

Rain huffs, shoving his cold nose into the crook of Mountain’s neck. “Not at all. Was Bug’s turn to pick, thought it would be a nice, easy B-rated, monster of the week type. You know, the type they usually go for?”

“Yeah?” Mountain says, tucking them both into the blankets. “What did they go with instead?”

Rain scowls petulantly, tail whipping nervously behind him, rustling the blankets. “They picked The Thing. And then Alien. Nope. Not letting Bug pick for three weeks.”

Mountain can’t help himself but rumble out a laugh, hauling Rain closer. “Poor tadpole. You alright?”

“Will be,” he mumbles, moving to bury his face in Mountain’s chest, and then freezing. “Acting like a fucking kit. There’s nothing inside you that’s gonna burst out. I’m being ridiculous.”

“It’s alright, Rainy baby,” Mountain coos, tucking his face into the crook of his neck instead. “They’re not real, you’re safe and everything will be alright.”

“I know. Just hate feeling like this. It’s not real. Why is it doing this to me?”

“It’s doing what it’s designed to,” Mountain murmurs into Rain’s hair. “Don’t hold it against yourself. Psychology is a hell of a thing, and it’s easy to manipulate. Some people enjoy it, and it’s okay if you don’t. I’m proud of you for watching them, though.”

“Thanks,” Rain whispers. Mountain realizes he’s shaking. He holds him even tighter. “Don’t get how people enjoy it.”

“It’s similar, I think, to how some people like rollercoasters. Or how we like the hunt. Think it’s about the thrill,” Mountain keeps his voice a low rumble, keeps his hand moving soothingly up and down his side.

“Makes sense,” he mumbles. Rain shifts in his arms, trying to get comfortable. “Don’t think I’m going to sleep tonight, though. It’s irrational and I hate it.”

Mountain kisses Rain’s temple. “What’s specifically scarin’ you, tadpole?”

It takes a moment for Rain to respond. “That somethin’s gonna get us in the dark. Like a kit.”

“Hush now, it’s not kittish,” Mountain whispers. “I won’t hear it. But I can help with it. Let me just, you’re okay.”

It’s a careful maneuvering as Mountain rolls their bodies over, shuffling under the blankets until Rain is tucked between Mountain and the wall. “Nothing’s gonna get you without going through me, and I won’t let it. Alright?”

Rain hums, feeling warm in his chest as Mountain pulls him back tight in his arms. “How’s that?” Mountain says, covering Rain’s body with his own.

“Better,” he whispers, curling his finned tail around Mountain’s own. “Thank you. Love you.”

“Love you too, sweetheart. Now, if you can, try and get some sleep? If not, that’s alright. I’ll stay up with you.”

Rain whines a little, nuzzling into Mountain’s jaw. “Thank you, sunflower. Wait, what if I dream about-”

Mountain cuts him off with a gentle kiss. “I’ll wake you up if I feel you start to dream.”

“You’re not quintessence, how-”

“Light of my life, Rain, tadpole, my love,” Mountain murmurs against the side of Rain’s head. His breath makes Rain’s finned ear flick. “You kick when you start to have nightmares.”

Rain laughs sheepishly, and Mountain kisses him again.

when not up, naomi's hair is really long. this isnt its full length cause she's putting it up right now but i imagine its an inch or so longer than kanade's. she refuses to cut it because she's scared the hair stylist is gonna mess it up. it takes like 6 hours to dry i imagine she's in the overgrown SEKAI while putting her hair up here. noone asked for epileptic ramírez family art but you‘re getting it anyways

(more details on my headcanon below)

so the basis of this headcanon is that epilepsy runs in the ramírez side of the family, most likely starting with bisabuela pati (despite not being blood related to her cousin bud also has epilepsy, a pretty insane coincidence if you think about it). this seems to have hit the primos’ generation the most, with only gordita, lucita and baby bud having not been hit with it yet

i wrote about each character (besides the three i mentioned previously) in more detail in one of my notebooks but that shit did NOT make sense so i’m going to summarise.

tater -

went through the first half of her life perfectly fine until her fifth birthday where she watched a rather overstimulating movie which triggered her first seizure (she’s photosensitive). she had a few more that year but she got everything under control relatively quickly, meaning she’s unmedicated, she just has to be careful when choosing things to watch.

nellie -

was barely a week old when she had her first seizure. as a baby she was constantly in and out of the hospital — the family epilepsy curse hit her HARD. for the first years of her life nellie was under CONSTANT supervision (when she moved in to tater’s bedroom keeping track of her at night got harder so they installed a seizure sensor thing under her bunk (i have one too!)), and she got excused from a lot of chores and physical activities just to be safe (this enabled her to become her lazy self).

lita -

lita’s epilepsy wasn’t ever really serious — when she was little her parents noticed she was pretty spacey, and even as she aged and got more energetic, she would still wear out pretty quickly. she’d stare blankly for a couple seconds, her eyelids would flutter as she looked around, looking mildly confused, then she’d shrug it off and get back to what she was doing. these turned out to be absences. she would have these pretty regularly but she grew out of them pretty quickly.

scooter -

he went a long time without suffering from anything his family did — had the occasional spasm here and there but nothing too severe — until one day his brain decided to turn against him, and now all of a sudden he’s having seizures left and right. his anxiety is a pretty big trigger for his seizures. he tends to get auras/„warning seizures” in stressful situations which only add even more stress.

tabi -

had her first (tonic-clonic) seizure at a sleepover when she was around… ten-elevenish? she had stayed up WAY longer than she ever had before and apparently her body couldn’t handle that. tabi’s a lot better at handling staying up longer than usual now, though her body does sometimes throw an absence at her if she’s overstepping it.

tere -

tere was already a lot to deal with as a little kid — her family epilepsy kicking in did NOT make things any easier to deal with. getting too overwhelmed/excited/emotional could send her straight into a fit. thankfully, this is no longer a problem she has to deal with. she has a lot of myoclonics but those are really easily dealt with.

toñita -

like nellie, she’s been having seizures since she was a baby, though hers were bad length-wise rather than quantity-wise. she’s had practically every kind of seizure under the sun, though nowadays she usually only has to deal with myoclonics and a nasty tic she developed (the doctors still aren’t sure if it’s caused by the epilepsy itself or a side effect of her meds). she’s a bit self conscious about her tic (she has tried everything to hide it), but besides that, she doesn’t mind her epilepsy too much. it’s a pain in the ass, but at least she gets extra attention when it starts playing up!

lotlot -

she’s been dealing with her epilepsy her whole life but it’s never been all that bad. she’s had a few tonic-clonics over the years, though her seizures usually tended to be atonic or tonic. she doesn’t mind them at all — collapsing on the cold, hard floor at random intervals has helped her build a resistance to feeling pain when falling over, meaning pretending to drop dead is a lot easier. (that’s one way to cope, i guess….)

chacha -

though it was extremely unpredictable at first, chacha’s epilepsy is probably the least prevalent and best controlled of all the seizure-having primos. good for her!

cousin bud -

his diagnosis was definitely the biggest shocker, mostly because of what an insane coincidence it is, lol. he’s been dealing with epilepsy since he was around eight, though he still hasn’t gotten around to getting it fully under control. he’s doing a lot better than he used to, but tonic-clonics (and the occasional complex partial) are still regular occurrences in his life.

big nacho -

he’s gotten past the worst of his epilepsy — in the first grade he would always have seizures in the most inconvenient times and places leading to various unfortunate injuries, but he hasn’t had a tonic-clonic or any other more serious seizure in a long time. his biggest epilepsy related problem he deals with currently is self consciousness. he’s afraid that his medical history is going to stop him from acheiving some of his dreams (or having children)

nachito -

his epilepsy isn’t unpredictable per se, it’s just that nachito doesn’t know how to tell when he’s about to have a seizure, which can cause some unfortunate situations. lucky for him, his epilepsy is on the weaker side, so he tends not to deal with anything worse than a partial. slightly less lucky for him, his epilepsy has impaired his memory a bit
